Pest Control in Orlando

3 Pest Types in Homes or Landscapes

3 common pest types in homes and/or landscapes and how to control them.

What are the most common pest types? We have prepared a list of tips to prevent a home from becoming the ideal insect and rodent resort. If you do not want to be the perfect host for these pests, follow the guidelines of the experts:

1.  Ants

Ants are a nuisance pest in and around the home. Ants can feed on and contaminate our foods, build nests inside the wall voids of our homes, or even build unsightly nests in our lawn and landscape areas. Most of the ants enter our homes in search of food. Therefore, we must avoid leaving foods laying around unsealed or unprotected from a potential ant invasion. This is achieved by covering all food well, immediately cleaning up any spilled liquid or food debris, and even by sealing the garbage bags well. Also, leftovers from pets should be collected as soon as they finish eating.

2. Bed bugs

This pest is becoming a major problem in many developed countries, given its rapid expansion and difficult treatment.
Their access to homes is usually produced using clothing or the interior of furniture or even luggage as a means of transport, so we must take special care not to facilitate their movement. Bed bugs can be a huge nuisance and remediation is very extensive. Guard against these invaders by checking your luggage after you travel or inspecting any furniture that you bring in to your home to make sure there are no hitchhikers.

3. Cockroaches

It is one of the most common pests in homes and also the one that can spread bacteria and viruses, such as salmonella, gastroenteritis, typhoid fever, or asthma. They reproduce quickly and in large numbers. The German cockroach is the most important cockroach in the United States. This species of cockroach can be found in restaurants, apartments, as well as our homes or any other place where food is prepared or stored. Exclusion and cleanliness are the best options to avoid an infestation. Make sure any entrance points such as cracks and crevices around windows and doors are sealed up. Also, cleanliness is paramount in order to avoid a roach or ant infestation.

As previously mentioned, all entrance points that can serve as a door to the home for these insects should be sealed well. But if there is already one inside, the best way to treat them is by denying them access to food or water as well as treating them to control the colony. Thus, it will be convenient to store food in airtight plastic containers, clean any remaining food messes, and dry any sinks before bed each night. Learn more about pests
